    ♆  introduction  ♆

♆             First of all, hello there! How are you? Hope you are doing well. :)My name is Sunny and this is my independently-run blog for Poseida, Greek Goddess of the Sea.A lot of you will no doubt be more familiar with her as Poseidon but I just want to make it clear from the get-go that this is not meant to be a genderbent / rule 63 rendition of the mythological character or figure. In my interpretation, Poseida is a transgender woman who had gender dysphoria and had taken steps to fully transition¹ (most notably via shapeshifting) in order to overcome said dysphoria. And for all of the morbidly curious of you out there—no, she doesn’t have any male genitalia; she shapeshifted that away ages away and hasn’t looked back since.
For more details, please consult this post.

¹ This is, by no means, me trying to imply that a trans person necessarily needs to medically transition in order to be considered trans, by the way. Every trans person is different. No one trans person's journey is any less valid than another trans person's journey. You're valid with or without surgery, with or without experiencing severe gender dysphoria, with or without presenting yourself in a manner that is stereotypically masculine or feminine. Please don't let anyone tell you otherwise. 🖤

    ♆  character portrayal  ♆

♆             I’ve had Po as a muse since 2016 and, while she is still based on the original mythology at her core, I’ve developed her to the point where my headcanons take precedence.(Also, I have wanted to write her since as far back as middle school but that’s neither here nor there.)Since she’s a woman instead of a man, for example, I’ve had to alter the myths that involve her having a female lover—and, by that, I don’t mean that I changed those lovers into men so that it’s still heterosexual but rather that I had to think about how her romantic and/or sexual interactions with other women would be different since she’s a woman, herself.Compared to male homosexuality—which was usually seen as acceptable (if not outright worthy of celebration)—female homosexuality was seldom discussed in Ancient Greek literature. → read moreIn the eyes of many Achaean men, the phallus essentially played a vital role in sex, so the mere notion of women being attracted to each other would have been seen as an oddity at best—and outright taboo at worst. Thus, Po probably would have been seen as a major weirdo by Ancient Greek men due to her mainly hooking up with women. (Make no mistake, though—she is still very much a pansexual disaster, lol.)     ♆             Given how the cultural ideas of a society can influence how they view their deities in literature the way that they do, that’s why I generally take all myths with a grain of salt, to begin with, to be honest. There is no one true “canon” when it comes to Greek mythology really.Every region had its own version of many myths—which is why the gods can come across as drastically different depending on who you’re talking to.Thus, by this point, I’ve pretty much combed through every possible variation that I could find, picked out the ones that I thought were best-fitting, altered some, added to others, created my own, stuffed all of those tales into a blender—and basically ended up with the interpretation of Po that I have today.

    ♆  blog content  ♆

♆      Given the mature and often graphic nature of Greek mythology, this blog may not be the most family-friendly blog to follow as adult topics may come up—such as death, violence, gore, trauma, grief, incest, etcetera, etcetera. Anything even remotely triggering will be tagged accordingly. Incest among the gods, though, will generally not be tagged due to it being so prevalent in the mythos, that it shouldn’t come off as much of a surprise. That information aside, I will just come out and say that I will NOT be shipping Po with anyone she considers to be her child—whether it’d be biological or adopted or honorary. She may be fine with the idea of sleeping with her siblings—but she draws the line when it comes to her children and descendants (and her own parents, of course).     ♆      An important thing to note for my interpretation trigger-wise is that Polyphemus has been turned into a child by rape. It’s not explicit in Po’s bio—but the implications are there and she, thus, has a more complicated relationship with him as a result due to the fact he sometimes reminds her so much of her rapists (which were an unnamed group of Giants who held her hostage for information on the Olympians sometime during the Gigantomachy—or War Against the Giants). This will be the only instance in which rape will feature on this blog, though, as it is not a topic that I am very comfortable with (for good reason) and any reference to it will only ever be made via implication.     ♆      If you are in any way troubled or uncomfortable with this information, you are welcome to unfollow / not follow me in the first place. I understand that such topics can be upsetting for a lot of people and I do not wish to make anyone feel unsafe on their own dash. For reference, I usually tag trigger warnings as “trigger tw” and content warnings as "content cw" depending on the subject material in question. To give a hypothetical example, child abuse would be tagged as "child abuse tw" while, childcare would be tagged as "childcare cw"     ♆      From time to time, I like to reblog old posts that I've made. If that, in any way, doesn't appeal to you, then feel free to blacklist: #self reblog

    ♆  interactions  ♆

♆      This blog is private—which means that I prefer to write with only my mutuals. Similarly, my Tumblr IMs and Discord are mutual only. My inbox is available to everyone, though, for questions and the like. You just cannot send me any that is in character unless we are mutuals.Stop by! I promise I won't bite. :)     ♆      Fair warning: I may be sparse on here from time to time as I am also in university. I’ll try to be as prompt as I can with my responses and interactions but school takes precedence, sorry.     ♆      When it comes to following / following back, I typically look to see if the other muse, in question, can reasonably interact with Po.Most of the time, it is a yes because she’s quite a flexible character. Even so, though, I couldn’t possibly follow everyone. That would make my dash far too chaotic for my tastes.     ♆      If you’re a roleplayer (that doesn’t roleplay on a personal account mind you) and you follow me but I don’t follow back after a week or so, I mean no offense by it really. By that point, it’s likely that I read through all of your pages and thought that we wouldn’t be the best match for each other.Rest assured that I do not do this with the intention of dissing or snubbing anyone.     ♆      Dear followers:
If the source for a particular meme that I have reblogged is available, then please reblog from there (especially if you're not planning on sending anything in).

♆      If you’re mutuals only as well, you’re welcome to unfollow me in such a scenario because I get it—you have to keep your dash clean and whatnot.Likewise, I tend to unfollow people if they haven’t followed me back after a week or so has passed.I wish such folks all the best—but you have to stick with the people who are genuinely interested in you as a writing partner, you know?Life’s too short to get all hung up on popularity contests.     ♆      If our muses do end up interacting, I would prefer it if they didn’t immediately know about Po’s true godly nature.I will allow it, though, if they are supernatural, themselves, and can detect the presence of other supernatural beings, or if we plot things out.     ♆      At any lovely personals that may wish to follow me: I see you and I appreciate you. 🖤However, please do not spam me with likes as that can mess up my notifications (which, on Tumblr, is already broken enough as it is).Another thing:
You are allowed to reblog any post so long as it isn't one that I have created.
I prefer to not let my writing, moodboards, and personal posts be spread around.Thank you for understanding. 🖤

    ♆  shipping & smut  ♆

♆      While I am of age, smut would be a rarity on this blog (if not outright non-existent) simply because I don’t feel all that confident in my smutting skills.I’m open to exchanging nsfw headcanons, though! Those can be a lot of fun.Should go without saying, by the way—but I won’t be doing anything even remotely suggestive with minors. (Don’t wanna go to jail, you know?)Please don't lie about your age and we will get along just fine.     ♆      Like many others who are trapped on this hell site, I LOVE shipping—whether it’d be romantic, platonic, familial, etcetera, etcetera.I’m more selective when it comes to romantic ships, though—simply because Po is the Queen of Denial and it would take her AGES to even admit to herself that she’s falling for someone.(She’s not an easy one to tell you the truth.)That being said, once I am hooked, I am hooked. You will have a hard time getting rid of me and that is the truth.     ♆      Like so many other roleplayers on Tumblr, I am a multi-shipper, thus, unless established otherwise—via polyamory ships, for example—every single romantic ship will be in its own separate universe. If you're interested in shipping, don't be afraid to let me know! While I cannot guarantee that Po and your muse will live happily ever after, it doesn't hurt to try. And if it's not working, don't be afraid to tell me either. Po won't be romantically compatible with everyone and that's okay! Besides, there are plenty of other possible relationship dynamics to explore so, it's no big. I won't hold a grudge.

♆      Full Disclosure: Since the gods are the master shapeshifters that they are, that basically means that they are not limited to changing JUST their entire form. They can also change just certain aspects of their body—such as (but not limited to) the color of their eyes, how tall they are, and even what they have going on below the belt. As depicted in various myths, they can also transform others.By this logical conclusion (and the category that I’m putting this information under), I bet that you can probably guess by now that they have the power to change other people’s genitalia—whether it’d be via adding a new one in addition to the one they already have, substituting it with that of the opposite reproductive sex, or getting rid of it entirely, etcetera. (The possibilities are virtually endless.)Now, in regards to how Po, herself, feels about this matter—just let it be known that she does NOT see this as either a requirement or a prerequisite for intercourse. If her partner is fine with the idea and wants to have a little transformation play, then that’s fine by her but it would NEVER be something that she would demand or force her partner to comply with. Likewise, she did not feel comfortable having male genitalia and she would much rather not regrow it and hopes that any prospective partner will understand that.     ♆      Lastly, I shouldn’t even have to say this but I am airing this out, anyway, as a precaution: please don’t see Po’s transgender identity as pure fetish fuel. Whatever you may see in pornography that features trans women is not an accurate depiction of reality.Porn can help foster (subconscious) harmful attitudes towards the trans community as a whole (especially if transphobic slurs were used). Basically, please don’t be a chaser and we shall be hella Gucci (as the cool kids say).

    ♆  pantheon  ♆

I’d feel honored to even receive the consideration!     ♆      For a list of my current mains, please go here!(I say current because the list might change in the future depending on various factors.)

    ♆  Blog Canon  ♆

.

     Q.       Where does Medusa fit in your blog canon?

     A.      I follow the Hesiod version. The idea that Medusa was once a beautiful maiden who was cursed to become a monster was an invention of the Roman poet, Ovid. To the Ancient Greeks, though, Medusa was the monster-born daughter of the elder sea gods, Phorcys and Ceto. She was also ugly as sin and was rarely described as a great beauty. Much like later retellings, she was also the only mortal out of her sisters. In the Hesiod version, she and Po obviously had some sort of romance going on. In one passage, for example, Po is described as laying with her "in a soft meadow and among spring flowers"—implying a tender sort of love. I, thus, like to think that they had a Beauty and the Beast sort of dynamic.

.

     Q.       What do you think of Ovid's Metamorphoses?

     A.      The only saving grace that Latin poem has its vivid descriptions on nature. Other than that, I loathe it (and, to a greater extent, Ovid, himself). I am not Ovid-friendly in the slightest. For those who may not know, Ovid had a problem with authority. Before any of you extoll his virtues on that mere fact alone, let me illustrate why that's not a good thing in this case. Ovid had a problem specifically with the emperor Augustus—so, what does he decide to do? Why use the gods as his scapegoat, of course!"But Sunny!" you might be thinking. "Weren't all of the Greek Gods total bastards except for Hestia and Hades? Doesn't he kind of have a point?"No, he does bloody not—and I'll tell you.Contrary to what late classical writers might have you believe, the gods that the Ancient Greeks worshipped were different from the gods of later adaptations and even their own myths. This is not to say that Greek Gods were flawless beings mind you but rather that their personalities were greatly exaggerated for the sake of drama and entertainment. They weren't immature, power-hungry bullies that spent all of their time tormenting mortals. A great deal of them were actually regarded as benevolent. A common epithet for the gods, in fact, was one that directly translated to the word savior. Essentially, I don't trust the characterization of the gods in the Metamorphoses because Ovid had an obvious agenda when he wrote that. Hell, the gods depicted in that poem were technically the Roman gods—but somehow a lot of people seem to forget that. Regardless of that, the Roman gods have a clear connection to the Greek gods. Thus, it's even more important to dispel the myth that Ovid's version is the "one true story."Greek mythology has no absolutes. There were a multitude of versions for practically every story that comes to mind. In other words, there is no "one true canon"—there's only the canon that's right for you.TLDR: Fuck Ovid.

.

     Q.       What are your thoughts on Greek myth adaptations?

     A.      I'm not going to sugarcoat it—I think that most of them are hot garbage. Clash of the Titans, for example? Trash (derogatory).Supernatural and Charmed are also on thin ice. Now, some of you might be confused given the hunter and witch focus of these respective shows. However, it turns out that these two shows depict the gods from pagan religions as characters—just so they can spit all over them. They are SO inaccurate in their depictions, that they make me furious. Charmed is the worse offender because the show subscribes to Ovid's take on Medusa—which just places them higher on my shit list. (You all know by now how I feel about Ovid.) Also, in its show canon, important beings known as the Council of Elders are the ones responsible for giving the Greek Gods their divinity. Meanwhile, the other gods depicted in the series are "presumably truly divine." This different origin not only confuses me but also angers me because I find it to be so disrespectful."Approximately 1000 BC, the Elders saw the Titans as a risk to the world and themselves. In reply to this expanding threat, they unleashed the powers of the Greek Gods onto mortals, who were then able to imprison the Titans for millennia. However, instead of returning the divine powers back to their resting place after the battle, the mortals declared themselves Gods and forced the known world to worship them, as their abilities had completely overwhelmed their senses of humanity. " — Charmed fandom wikiI must admit, though, that I have a soft spot for Percy Jackson and the Olympians (PJO). While it is riddled with inaccuracies and its depictions of the gods aren't the most faithful either, it has a certain charm to it that I can't help but feel that most adaptations lack. Maybe it's nostalgia but I still like the series and would be willing to interact with any characters from that franchise.TLDR: I hate most but PJO is okay.

.

     Q.       Why do you include some myths in your blog canon but not others?

     A.      Because those myths fit my vision better than the myths that I've excluded from my portrayal. It's simple as that. Are you 100% faithful to what's canon for your muse? If not, then I'm sure that you might find my cherry-picking to be understandable.

.

     Q.       Do the Greek Gods still have followers?

     A.      Yes—they do! There's been an Ancient Greek religion revival movement for quite some time, in fact. A common way for modern followers to show their devotion is by dedicating an altar or shrine to their deity of choice. They may also write hymns—religious poems—or utter words of prayer. That's about the extent of my knowledge, though. If you want to learn more, then I'd suggest asking one of their followers for more information. Also, please try to keep an open mind if you do so and don't bring up any stereotypes if you can help it. Remember that the myths were closer to being entertainment than religious texts.

.

    ♆  Po as a Character  ♆

.

     Q.       Is Po your OC?

     A.      LOL, I WISH. In all seriousness, though, she (technically) isn't. The original concept for her comes from the Ancient Greeks. I've simply expanded on their ideas and made her my own. I'm flattered whenever somebody thinks of her as my OC, though, I must admit. It makes me think that I might be doing something right then!

.

     Q.       How is your take on Po different from how she's depicted in the myths?

     A.      She's different in quite a number of ways. For starters, she never pursued Hestia nor Demeter.¹ She also didn't fall in love at first sight when she first saw Amphitrite dancing with her sisters. They still later wedded but there wasn't a one-sided attraction angle involved. Instead, it was a mutually-agreed upon marriage that's fueled by the need for companionship. As for personality, she's more cheerful than her myth counterpart and has a distinctive flair for the macabre. She's also more likely to be outwardly sweet. Don't be fooled, though, for her sweet demeanor belies a salty interior.¹ Other women that she didn't pursue include Thetis and Tyro (along with some others).

.

     Q.       If Po can shapeshift, then why doesn't she just make herself taller?

     A.      Just because she can do that doesn't necessarily mean that she has a strong desire to do so. While she was self-conscious about her less than average height when she was in her youth, she has long since learned to embrace it and doesn't actually mind being short. She just hates being the subject of short jokes.

.

     Q.       Is Po white?

     A.      Nah, she's technically mixed-race (albeit white-passing). The Ancient Greeks were a lot more diverse in skin tone than what some might expect—so, I thought it'd only make sense if the Greek pantheon was phenotypically diverse. It's also one of those things that we, the Greek myth rpc, have generally agreed upon (i.e., that not all of the gods look white).

.

     Q.       Does Po need prayer to sustain her power?

     A.      She doesn't actually! She came into her own before she even had worshippers so, I like to think that prayers are just something that's nice to receive—kind of like receiving validation from others.

.

     Q.       Does Po have a job? What does she even do?

     A.      Does ruling over the ocean not count as a job?To give a less snarky response, her position as queen gives her a lot of obligations and responsibilities. Whenever she's working, she typically oversees kingdom concerns as soon as she's all freshen up and has had her fill of breakfast. Next, she allows for a brief recess at lunch time; then she discusses important matters with her council of advisors and, later on, looks over some laws (both old and new). After all that, she catches up with her kingdom's armed forces. Besides governing, she also makes sure that human knowledge of the ocean is kept up-to-date. In that sense, she's also like a scribe.

.

     Q.       Since Po is Queen of the Sea, how could she ever possibly justify going on vacation?

     A.      Look around. Does the President of the United States refuse to ever take a break? Does Great Britain's royal family refrain from going on a holiday? They do not—so, I see no reason why Po should be exempt from going on vacation every now and then. Everyone needs a break once in a while, you know.

.

     Q.       If Po is so powerful, then why are there still so many issues in the world?

     A.      Because those issues are ultimately humanity's mess to clean up—not hers. This is not to say that Po would not be willing to lend a helping hand, though. On many occasions, in fact, she has provided mortals with aid of some sort—usually clean water, warm food, and soft clothes. Her preferred method of helping, however, is by teaching. Although she likes to feel needed, she doesn't want mortals to become too dependent on her. Sure, she could probably solve some problems with a wave of her hand—but there's just no opportunity for learning that way. She's here to be a mentor first and foremost.Side-note: I've seen this type of question before but usually it was aimed at the Christian God as a way to poke holes into the notion that he's a just and benevolent god. Please do not equate Po—or any of the other Greek Gods, for that matter—with the Christian God. They are not one and the same. Christianity =/= Ancient Greek religion (nor any modern revivals). Furthermore, if you happen to have a hate boner for the Greek Gods, I suggest that you leave right now because I will not stand for that kind of negativity.

poseida basileia

Sing, Nereides, of Poseida, star-eyed mother of the visionary Atlanteans.

Mistress of the ocean, you with an enchanting smile
bedight upon your lovely face—
You who beguile unwitting sailors and merchants
with your sweet, honeyed song—
You for whom the feral monsters of the deep play
in your path, yearning for your affection—
for whom the shimmering waves ripple as you pirouette,
twirl, and leap upon your watery stage—
You who shape islands and breathe life into newborn creatures—
O winsome queen of the sea, you who care for your creations
like how a mother would her child, I beseech you:
Be tender of heart and temperate in judgment as you watch over
your faithful patrons and may you grant those who voyage in ships
safe passage through your briny domain.

Animated.Princess Ariel ()Disney's The Little Mermaid
Live-Action.Rachel Hurd-Wood ()all relevant media

¹ Important to Note: While Po does technically have a live-action faceclaim (two of them, in fact), Aleksandra is not likely to be used for roleplay purposes since the former is a fashion model with a (seemingly) limited range of expressions. That said, makes up for it by being the mortal that most closely resembles Po—so, if you are someone that exclusively uses live-action faceclaims and you struggle to imagine what Po would look like in real life, feel free to use Aleksandra as a visual reference for her. As for Rachel, I simply lack icons for her at the moment.

Hair.     Fiery red—so red, that it can rival the blazing fires of hell. (The ginger is, indeed, strong in this one.) Her curls are voluminous and come all the way down to her mid-thighs when left loose. The texture is silky smooth despite its thickness and has a healthy shine to it. What with how long her hair is, she looks like she should star in a shampoo commercial aimed at girls with Rapunzel-length hair. When she's in her divine form, her hair shines with magical energy and turns cotton candy pink.Eyes.     Large with an upwards slant—what someone might call cat-like—her eyes are amethyst galaxies. Flecks of lavender and lilac dust her violet eyes like nebulas (along with the tiniest hints of periwinkle). When she's in her divine form, her eyes glow turquoise.
Face.      Soft and heart-shaped with a pert, delicate nose, arched brows, and high cheekbones. Her countenance is of an ethereal sort of beauty.
Ears.     Long and elfin. Doesn't stick out much from her head.
Skin / Complexion.     Clear and so pale, that she can put the entire milk industry out of business. If she gets some sun during the summer, she gains small, faint freckles. These freckles are scattered all throughout her body (and face) like constellations. They (unfortunately) usually go away come wintertime. When she is in her divine form, her skin becomes 50 shades of purple and, much like her hair, shines with magical energy.
Body Hair.     Poseida’s hairless everywhere below the chin (and, yes, I really do mean everywhere).
Tattoos.     Poseida enjoys doodling ideas for possible tattoos on her wrists but she's not interested in getting anything permanent. She prefers temporary tattoos because she likes the idea of being able to change a tattoo on a whim.
Piercings.     Poseida only has her ears pierced (usually just her lobes). However, she has entertained the idea of also getting a belly button piercing.

Signature Scent.     Top notes of lavender, lily of the valley, and rose. Heart notes of jasmine, strawberries, and lychees. Base notes of pine and cedarwood with a hint of an ocean breeze.Normal Body Temperature.     She's cool to the touch, the refreshing coolness of a tall glass of water during a hot summer's day.Dominant Hand.     Left but she has trained herself to become ambidextrous.Height.     4'10" (147.32 cm)
Weight.     107 lbs (48.53 kg)
Body Type.     Ecto-Mesomorph.
Physique.     Petite hourglass figure. Large chest. Her limbs are lean and toned, her body curvaceous. Her slender arms belie the incredible strength she actually has.
Hands & Feet.     Small and slender. Fingers are long and elegant, the fingers of a classical musician. Nails are semi-long and well-manicured.
Body Measurements.     32 inch bust (a C cup in case you’re wondering), 22 inch waist, 36 inch hips.
Shoe Size.     4 (US & Canada) / 2 (UK) / 35 (Europe).
Noteworthy Physical Characteristics.
As a mermaid, Poseida gains a powerful tail, (softly) glowing skin, and opalescent scales that shimmer in the moonlight. She's also taller in this form—6 ft tall to be exact (if you count the full length of her tail).
Her elfin ears grow longer and fin-like, their colour the same one as that of the fins of her tail.
Poseida has intensely ginger locks in both her “human-passing” form and her mermaid one. She also has a…let's just say noticeable lack of stature compared to the vast majority of her family. (She’s keenly aware of this, by the way; just don’t rub it in.)

Beauty Regimen.    Nothing overly complicated. Her skin is naturally free of scars and blemishes so, she does not need concealer for one thing. She also does not need to use a foundation of any kind because her complexion is nice and even. Po starts off her routine by washing her face. This not only acts as a cleanser for her skin but also helps her feel more rejuvenated. Her skin has a natural dewiness due to her being a mermaid, but she likes to exfoliate her skin, nevertheless, because it relaxes her. When it comes to makeup, she tries not to go heavy on it as she still wants for her natural beauty to shine through. At the same time, though, she likes to experiment with her eyeshadow and eyeliner.Seasonal Colour.    Clear Spring. Also known as Bright Spring, this seasonal colour is an exciting blend of Spring and Winter; it has the typical freshness of the former season and the stark contrast of the latter. As suggested by its name, though, Clear Spring colouring leans more towards Spring. It can also be distinguished by its eye-catching combination of warmth and vibrancy. The colours that would look the least flattering on a Clear Spring are muted, desaturated hues such as dusty pink and cool-toned hues like icy blue.Fashion Sense.     Po puts considerable time and effort into cultivating her personal style. She often finds herself gravitated towards dark colours—black in particular—and jewel tones (e.g. sapphire, amethyst, ruby red, etc.). Skirts and dresses dominate her wardrobe (especially those that flatter her figure, make a statement, or are stunningly elegant). On the more casual side of things, she owns some jeans and shorts with rips in them that she painted by hand and has so many band tees, that she could open up her own shop. She’s also fond of leather and is known to sport one whenever she’s in the mood for danger or adventure. All in all, her taste is as dark  as her soul and more Gothic than Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way could ever hope  to be.

    extended family

Great-Grandparent.     Chaos, the void that emerged at the beginning of the universe.
Grandparents.     Gaea, the primordial goddess of the earth and ancestral mother of all life, and Ouranos, the primordial god of the sky and the nutless wonder, himself (not to mention one of Gaea's offspring at that—but let's not think about that too much.)
Uncles.     Oceanus, Coeus, Crius, Hyperion, Iapetus, Nereus, Pontus, Proteus¹, Phorcys, Thaumas, the Elder Cyclopes, Erebos, the Telkhines, Chronos², Typhon, and the Giants.
Aunts.     Theia, Themis, Mnemosyne, Phoebe, Tethys, Ceto, Aphrodite, Eurybia, and Nyx.

Cousins.     Atlas, Prometheus, Epimetheus, Menoetius, Helios, Selene, Eos, the Oceanids and Potamoi, the Nereids and Nerites, Astraios, Pallas, Perses, Leto and Lelantos (twins), Asteria, Zelus, Nike, Kratos, Bia, Hecate, Thanatos and Hypnos (twins), the Anemoi, and so many more, that you can fill out an entire phone book with the sheer amount of names.
Nieces, Nephews, and Niblings.     Athena, Ares, Hephaestus, Persephone, Apollo and Artemis, Hermes, Dionysus, Hebe, Enyo, Eris³, Eileithyia, the Muses, the Charities (or Graces), Perseus, Heracles, Helen of Troy, Macaria, Melinoë, Minos, Sarpedon, Rhadamanthus, and who even knows how many more.

¹ Important to Note: Proteus is still “the prophetic old man of the sea and shepherd of the sea's flocks”—that much hasn't changed. What has changed, though, is his parentage. Instead of being a son of Poseida, he has been changed to the twin brother of Nereus—thus, making him the son of Pontus and Gaea, instead. Given how ancient writers have made him fit into the Old Man of the Sea archetype, I thought that it would only make more sense if his parents were primordial gods.
² In the Orphic tradition, Chronos was credited as the creator of Aether, Chaos, and a cosmic egg. A god named Phanes emerged from said egg and was said to have given birth to the first generation of gods. In my interpretation, though, there is no Phanes (sorry, Phanes!) and Chronos is the eldest child of Chaos, having sovereignty over even Gaea, herself.
³ Important to Note: Only sometimes. Eris could be Poseida’s first cousin once removed instead if one were to go with Nyx, Poseida’s great-aunt, as her mother.

general

    personality

Poseida is the metaphorical embodiment of her watery domain. Like the ocean, she has an enigmatic yet playful nature—so much so, in fact, that she finds it amusing to make mortals doubt as to whether or not she's a mere figment of their imagination. Whenever she interacts with a deep sea diver, for instance, she likes to attract their attention and encourage them to give chase. As always, though, the game will eventually start to bore her. She vanishes, leaving not a single trace of her existence behind—almost as if she wishes to torment these poor mortals for failing to catch more than just a glimpse of her. Was she real? Or was she just fantasy? These are the sort of questions she likes to leave in the minds of mortals who travel through or enter her domain.Po's playfulness also lends itself well to a good sense of humor. Said sense of humor is intertwined with her love of playing tricks on people. She finds harmless practical jokes hilarious and laughs even harder at clever word play. Despite the reputation she has for being wrathful, she can also take a joke—most of the time. Should the subject matter ever turn to her short stature, expect her to adopt a (surprisingly) cutting resting bitch face. Whether or not she will retaliate is a toss-up, but she will generally not be able to resist. A prime example can be found here.

Thanks to Po's dreamlike disposition, she often seems as if she's in another realm. (This, in turn, contributes to her other reputation of being a space cadet.) The funny thing is that such a presumption would not be an automatic falsehood. There's no sugar-coating it. Po is odd. She's a lil' weirdo with a penchant for horror and all matters macabre. She knows this and she sees no shame in it. To her, there's beauty in the grotesque. To her, normality is subjective—a construct that some people cling to with far too much desperation. Why cruise through the suburbs when you can take a detour into Wonderland, after all. Perhaps the greatest evidence of just how truly bizarre her mind can be is the list of her creations.

While Po may be renowned for creating the beautiful horse, most of her creations tend to have the sort of face that only a mother could love. For an example, look no further than the anglerfish. Also known as the World's Deadliest Nightlight, this deep sea creature is the stuff of nightmares. Why make the females dwarf their male counterparts and make them fuse as part of their mating? Why give them a means of luring poor, unsuspecting prey to their deaths? Why endow them with such absurdly pointy teeth to begin with? Who knows. One thing is for sure, though—Po thinks that her creations have a unique beauty that's all their own. (People who wish that the ocean would just fuck off would beg to differ.)

Ultimately, Poseida is living proof that appearances can be deceiving. Although her effervescent exterior is genuine, she is not above mingling malice with a smile. Woe betide anyone who mistakes her softness for weakness. She is not the endearingly innocent ingénue who forgives and forgets—she is the viper hidden beneath the flowers. Much like the turbulent waves that swallow up ships during a storm, she can be utterly ruthless. This is especially the case if she's determined to punish someone for some (real or perceived) wrong that they have committed. Despite her ruthless streak, though, she tries to use rehabilitation as a solution for wrong-doers (more specifically evil-doers) whenever possible. If someone demonstrates to her that they bear no remorse over the evil that they have done, however, then long hours of brutal torture (and eventual death) it is. She'd almost feel pity for even such awful people—if it weren't for the fact that they repulse her to no end. As far as she's concerned, they are the true monsters.more to be added.

character tropes

    a - e

Action Mom
Adaptational Badass: While Po was never exactly weak, she did get nerfed quite a bit in the Ancient Greek myths of the Classical era. During the Mycenaean era (and perhaps even further back), she was originally not only Queen of the Gods but also had chthonic elements due to being a goddess of the earth. That all changed, though, during the Greek Dark Ages. To quote tvtropes: "she lost her position of top dog to Zeus, and most of her chthonic elements went away to be assigned to Hades." While the former element is kept, Po is still an earth goddess in my version—hence her being able to manipulate the earth beyond generating earthquakes (and without the use of her trident at that).
Adaptation Dye-Job: Poseida is noted for having dark hair in the myths. However, that hasn't stopped other adaptations from deviating from that standard. She's had blue hair, green hair, and even silver hair in other adaptations, so, why not add red hair to the mix?
All Women Are Lustful: While this was the standard mentality among Ancient Greek men, they considered Po to invert this trope due to her mostly having sexual relations with other women; the belief, at the time, was that women do not naturally feel desire for each other—hence them being (purposefully) ignorant of Po's attraction to other women and forever considering her to be a lonely widow (even after she remarried). Joke's on them, though, because she played it straight (just not the type of straight that they would have hoped for).
An Ice Person
Artsy Beret: She has a proud collection of berets for every vibe and every occasion.
Badass Adorable: Especially in her youth!
Badass Bookworm
Badass Driver: If you can hold onto your stomach, she can take you anywhere—and do it in style.
Bag of Holding: Carries one around for convenience.
Benevolent Mage Ruler
Biker Babe
Bare Your Midriff
Blow You Away
Braids of Action: Whenever Po is planning on doing something sporty or physical, she braids her long hair so it doesn't get in her way.
Can't Hold Her Liquor
Casting a Shadow
Chef of Iron
Classical Anti-Hero: She started out as one of these during her youth—but seeing her sister, Hestia, get hurt while trying to protect her gave her the motivation she needed to learn how to fight.
Cloudcuckoolander
Cold Ham
Combat Medic: Performed this role particularly during her youth.
Compelling Voice
Competition Freak
Complete Immortality
Cope by Creating: This is how Altantis came to be.
Creepy Good
Damsel out of Distress
Dance Battler: Her signature fighting style involves spectacular acrobatics; as a result, it can be mistaken for dancing from an outsider's perspective.
Dishing Out Dirt
Ditzy Genius: Po is a bonafide polymath with an uncanny ability to absorb information and apply it in interesting and surprising ways. However, dirty or vulgar puns tend to fly over her head—especially if they're what the current youth like to say—and she has a tendency to be lost in her own little world.
Ear Fins: She has these whenever she's in her mermaid form.
Eccentric Artist
Elegant Classical Musician
Empathic Weapon: Her trident became this thanks to the Telkhines imbuing it with the essence of the ocean.
Endearingly Dorky
Extraoredinary
Eye Beams

    f - k

Flight Is the Final Power
Flowers of Femininity
Fiery Redhead: Played with. When Po was just a godling, this description couldn't have been further from the truth. During ancient times, however, that changed. In her quest to obtain more power, she became more passionate and outspoken. Since she was (and still is) a sore loser (albeit to a lesser degree), this unfortunately also meant that irritability became her—to the point where it sometimes seemed that her eyes would twitch at the slightest provocation. Nowadays, she has thankfully chilled the fuck out.
Fluffy Tamer: Giant, terrifying sea monsters fawn over Po and play in her path whenever she rides her chariot across the waves. (Enough said.)
Friend to All Children
Friend to All Living Things: Unless you're a seagull that is.
Genki Girl: While she may more down-to-earth in comparison to the genki girls of anime, Po can be as enthusiastic as the best of them whenever the conversation shifts to a topic that she's interested in. Once that happens, prepare yourself for rapid-fire monologues, sudden squeaks of joy, and a rare condition known as Uncontrollable Eye Twinkling.
Gentlewoman Snarker
Girls Love Stuffed Animals
Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak
Glass Cannon: Although Po has impressive power, she is squishy compared to most of her fellow Olympians—thus, making her an example of this trope.
Glowing Eyes
Godiva Hair: In her mermaid form, the only thing offering her even a semblance of modesty is her long, red hair.
Good Bad Girl
Good Is Not Soft
Goth Girls Know Magic
Gravity Master
Green Thumb
Guile Heroine
Genius Sweet Tooth
Hollywood Nerd
Hopeless with Tech: Subverted. Po is not necessarily hopeless with technology. She just tends to prefer low-tech alternatives for mundane situations. For example, she prefers to write letters instead of emails and to read physical books instead of reading books on an electronic device.
Hot-Blooded: Downplayed. Po's usual demeanor is one of dreamy serenity but she has her hot-blooded moments whenever competition is concerned.
Hot Goddess
Immortal Genius
Iron Woobie
Kindhearted Cat Lover
Kung Fu Wizard

Lady of Black Magic
Lady of War
Light 'em Up
Long Hair Is Feminine
Loon with a Heart of Gold
Lord of the Ocean
Making a Splash
Mama Bear: Odysseus learned this all too well.
Master of Illusion
Modest Royalty
Mood-Swinger: Most notably during ancient times. This aspect of her may have been exaggerated in the myths but it did hold a kernel of truth.
Nightmare Fetishist: There's a reason why H.P. Lovecraft was notoriously unnerved by the ocean...

Key Motifs.     The ocean, ethereal beauty, art, eerie singing (like a siren), mermaid scales and tails, silvery trident (that glimmers in the moonlight), magic , witchcraft, mystery, gothic horror, cursive handwriting with an elegant flair, fairytales, possessing a morbid sense of humour, fantastical beasts, black cats, horses running wild and free, motorcycles, rebellion, Lovecraftian horror, finding beauty in the grotesque, moon worship imagery, having a fondness for cryptids, enacting revenge, fast cars with a sleek look, hidden doorways, surrealism, childlike wonder, lightly-scented envelopes with elaborate seals.

Room Décor.     Creepy skulls, moody candelabras, too many plants, paintings galore, layered rugs, trinkets with a story behind them, scented candles that are softly lit, vintage typewriters, sketchbooks, journals, retro record players, tarot cards, aged books with weathered edges (several of which are stacked on various surfaces), sculptures, witchy embroidery, bohemian prints, cozy throw blankets, potions, jars full of seashells, crystals, antique mirrors, quill pens, well-worn parchment paper, ornate jewelry boxes, ancient tapestries.

Handwriting.     Elegant, dramatic cursive. Light pressure. Neat and still legible despite its decorative flair. Letters are on the small side (for the most part). Her words are written at a right slant and are evenly spaced out. She circles her lowercase I and goes for a high cross on the stem of her T. She also favours large loops. The larger, the better. This plays into her signature where there is a noticeable size difference between her uppercase P and the rest of the letters in her name. As a characteristic marker, she also likes to draw a tiny, quick doodle just below her signature. The doodle changes depending on whom she’s addressing and the current circumstance.

Mental Conditions.     ADHD (primarily inattentive type), Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD), Cyclothymia (cyclothymic disorder), acute trauma (the pain of losing not only her husband but also her unborn children in one fell swoop), (alleviated) Complicated Grief (CG), photographic memory, (past) substance abuse (in the form of so-called "productivity-enhancing" potions), (past) gender dysphoria, and (alleviated) hypersexuality (or sex addiction).
Physical Conditions.     None, fortunately. Unless being ginger counts.
Allergies.     Iron. She's not deathly allergic to it—but the metal does make her sneeze a lot whenever she's in its presence.
Constitution.     Since she was born premature, she was quite fragile as a child—and even more so when she was just an infant. She bruises more easily than her siblings and has a bizarre relationship with pain where she is more sensitive to some types of pain and less sensitive to other types. (It's a Ginger Thing.) And then there's the matter of her stunted growth thanks to her status as the runt of the litter. Aside from all of that, though, she's fit as a fiddle. She cannot catch any sort of disease and mortal-made weaponry cannot harm her (yes, including bullets). The only disease that she's prone to catching is Eyerollingitius.
Alcohol Use.     She's (mostly) a social drinker.
Drug Use.     Non-existent.
Eating Habits / Diet.     Po loves being in the kitchen and enjoys a varied, balanced diet. (She does have a fondness for sweets, though, admittedly.) Whenever she dines out, she likes eating gourmet and street food alike. She famously (or infamously depending on who you ask) hates fast food joints, however, (particularly McDonald's) and is 100% the type to grumpily retort that there's food at home should some kids scream their little heads off upon seeing a McDonald's in the distance. As much as she hates fast food, in general, though, twinkies take the crown for her most detested food. You can stab her as many times as you want and, at the worst, she'd be bored—force-feed her twinkies, though, if you wanna see her truly suffer.
Fitness.     She works out semi-regularly—at least, three times a week—and usually does any of the following: swim, practice martial arts, surf, skateboard, and dance. When it's colder, she hits the slopes with her snowboard and skates on the ice. Although she looks more delicate than most of the other gods (thanks largely in part to her small stature), she has a lithe body and, as mentioned earlier, is stronger than she looks.
Sleeping Habits / Rest.     Irregular. She often stays up past midnight, absorbed in some activity (usually in a personal project or a really good book—if not either of those, then stress baking is the culprit). Whenever she does sleep, she sometimes has nightmares so she likes to keep a comfort object on hand just in case—such as a fluffy stuffed animal, a huge pillow, or a person that she trusts. She also keeps a dream journal nearby so that she can record any fantastical (or just plain odd) dreams that she can use later as inspiration for her artwork.

divine powers

    Most Iconic Power

Hydrokinesis.   As the Olympian goddess of the earth's seas and oceans, Po can manipulate water in all of its states of matter (as well as no matter what its source is). Since water is incredibly versatile, it has various applications. For instance, Po is able to manipulate the surface tension of water and move on it as easily as one would be able to move on land—to the point that she's even able to dance on water without any worries. She can also save the life of a person who accidentally swallowed too much water by extracting the liquid that's trapped in their lungs.Additional applications include the following:
aqueous solution manipulation (coffee, glue, ink, paint, perfume, soft drinks, soups and broths, tea, wine, etc.)
blood manipulation, brain liquification, and bodily fluids manipulation
bubble/foam generation and cloud manipulation
cryokinesis, chlorokinesis, and healing
cryokinetic constructs and hydrokinetic constructs
drought creation and flood creation
fog/haze/mist mimicry and food manipulation (limited to foods that have water in them such as strawberries)
hydrokinetic cloning and hydrokinetic surfing
rain manipulation and selective wetness (the ability to be dry when submerged in water if she so chooses)

One noteworthy example was the Oracle of Delphi.Divine Intervention.   As a goddess, Po is able to interact with and assist mortals even in circumstances where she cannot be bodily present. This can manifest in various ways. By manipulating earth particles, she can even manipulate metal.Glamour.   Po is able to alter the appearance of herself and others through the use of a glamour, a type of illusion.Healing Field Projection.   Po is able to project a field that heals and rejuvenates others to a certain extent. This ability is useful for when she needs to be able to heal multiple people at the same time. The only drawback is that the healing that these fields provide isn't as potent as her waterbending.Interdimensional Storage.   Po can store things into another dimension for safekeeping.Illusion Awareness.   Po can see through illusions.Illusion Manipulation.   Po is able to create and manipulate eerily realistic illusions, causing her targets to perceive an alternate sense of reality.Illusion Reflection.   Po is able to reflect any illusion that is used against her and send it right back to its caster as a means of self-defense and counter-attack.Life Creation.   Po is able to create living organisms with varying degrees of sapience.Lunar Empowerment.   Po is able to gain strength from the moon due to the affinity that she has for it.Lunacy Inducement.   Po is able to induce lunacy in others, thus, causing their mind to become feral.Magic Artistry.   Po is able to make paintings come to life by using a paintbrush made out of her hair.Magic Augmentation.   Po can enhance her magic as well as the magic of other beings and objects.Magic Detection.   Po can detect the presence of magic and obtain knowledge of its power, source, and effects as well as its last whereabouts.Magic Infusion.   Going hand in hand with her magic augmentation ability, Po is able to infuse ordinary objects with magic and grant them special effects.Magic Lordship.   As the Olympian goddess of magic, Po has divine authority and absolute control over the arcane arts and magic, itself.Magic Negation.   As a goddess of magic (and a major one at that), Po is able to nullify the magical powers and abilities of lesser mages.Magical Object Manipulation.   Po is able to manipulate and create mystical objects (such as a grimoire).Magical Warrior Creation.  Since Po is a goddess of magic, she is able to create a team of magical warriors by crafting a set of magical items which can transform mortals of her choosing into powerful heroes.Music Manipulation.  Po can manipulate the aspects of music including (but not limited to) its pitch, rhythm, and dynamics.Musical Inducement.  Po is able to make those around her spontaneously break out into song and dance.

This has the added benefit of making the once impure water now safe for human consumption (if it's fresh water) and habitation. (Please note that this does not mean that a water source that she purifies cannot become impure again.)Weapon Calling.   Po is able to call her weapon back to her no matter where said weapon may be. This is limited to weapons that she has already bonded with (i.e., her trident). It wouldn't work, for instance, with Captain America's shield.Wing Manifestation.   As an archmage, Po is able to grow large, watery wings on her back and use them for gliding.Wish Granting.   Po is able to grant wishes and manifest the desires of others into reality—within reason, of course.     ♆  abilities  ♆

physiology

Absolute Immortality.   Unfortunately (for her enemies), Po will never die—whether it'd by natural means (i.e., aging) or another's hand.Asexual Reproduction.   By combining one essence (whether that'd be her own or that which belongs to another person) with, at least, one other essence, Po is able to magically produce a child. This method is not true asexual reproduction since it still requires a partner but it can be seen as such since it does not require any sexual intercourse.Cold/Ice Immunity.   The cold never bothered her, anyway.Constriction.   Po's mermaid tail is so long, that she's able to wrap it around her opponent and squeeze the life out of them.Conversion Immunity.   As a goddess, Po is immune to conversions. This means that she cannot be turned (forcefully or not) into a vampire, werewolf, or what have you. (She can, however, take on the likeness or form of another supernatural being but that is not the same as conversion because the change is only cosmetic.) Attempting to turn her, anyway, has some interesting consequences... → read moreDisease Immunity.   As a goddess, Po is immune to all earthly diseases (including STDs). This immunity also enables her to consume rotten food if she so wishes—which she doesn't because she has standards, thank you very much—without suffering any repercussions.Divine Form.   Po is able to channel her divine essence and use that highly concentrated energy to transform into her true divine form. In this form, she becomes a being made out of pure magical energy and she no longer needs wings to fly. Essentially, she becomes the embodiment of magic, itself. This transformation is usually voluntary but it can be triggered involuntarily if she experiences intense emotional agony or stress.Divine Presence.   As a goddess, Po is able to emit a transcendent presence that causes supernatural effects in her current surroundings.Electricity Resistance.   Thanks to her status as a storm goddess, Po can resist electricity as well as electric-based attacks.Fire/Heat Immunity.   Unfortunately (for witch hunters), fire doesn't burn this witch.Hunger Suppression.   Po is able to suppress her physical hunger for exceedingly long periods of time.Magic Resistance.   As the Olympian Goddess of Magic, Po is highly resistant to magic attacks (especially if they come from lesser mages).Nigh-Absolute Invulnerability.   As a goddess, Po is immune to almost all kinds of damage.Conventional attacks simply inflict no damage upon her. Punches from an ordinary mortal, for instance? Utterly laughable. Knives? Get that weak shit out of here. Bullets? More of an annoyance than anything else—and the list goes on-and-on. The only weapons that can harm her are those that are supernatural in nature. Similarly, only supernatural abilities and magic restraints have any hope of weakening her or trapping her respectively. Never matter what lethal method is used, Po's body will quickly heal itself regardless of how much she's been damaged. You could even scatter her essence across the entire universe and she'll still be able to reform her body someday (whether that'd be sooner or later).Basically, Po's like the Terminator but worse.Night Vision.   Po is able to see in low light conditions or even total darkness.Nigh-Omnipotence.   Since Po is a major goddess of her pantheon, she possess unimaginable power. That said, she has some limitations that prevent her from ever reaching omnipotent status. → read morePain Resistance.   Po is highly resistant to physical pain of any kind thanks to her divine status.Petrification Immunity.   Since Po is a goddess, she is immune to petrification.Poison Immunity.   Since Po is a goddess of magic (as well as a master nature mage), she is immune to all types of poisons, toxins, and venom.Poisonous Blood.    Divine blood (or ichor) is said to be so toxic to mortals, that it can kill them instantly if they were to come into contact with it. → read morePressure Invulnerability.   As a goddess, Po has a natural immunity to the harmful effects of both high-pressure and low-pressure environments.Regenerative Healing Factor.   As a goddess, Po is able to restore her body back to an optimal state of health at a remarkably fast rate (especially when compared to ordinary mortals). Her regenerative healing factor is so powerful, in fact, that something as fatal as decapitation has no ill long-term effects on her since she can just regenerate a new head or have her head regenerate a new body.Seismic Energy Immunity.   As a goddess of the earth, Po is immune to the effects of vibrations and seismic force.Sleep Suppression.   As a goddess, Po is able to suppress her physical need for sleep for long periods of time.Somatic Pain Immunity.   Thanks to her supernaturally-enhanced flexibility, Po is able to move easily even when she is in an otherwise uncomfortable position.Super Fecundity.   Thanks to her merfolk physiology, Po is able to conceive and gestate children in the half the time that it would take a human with the right equipment to do so. In other words, it would take her only about 4.5 months to successfully carry a pregnancy to term.Supernatural Beauty.   Since Po is a major goddess, her outer beauty greatly exceeds what is considered naturally possible for humans.Supernatural Physical Condition.   Since Po is a major goddess, her physical condition is far superior to even that of a mortal in peak human condition (such as an Olympic-level athlete). Her supernaturally-enhanced physical abilities are as follows: agility, constitution, dexterity, durability (see entry on her nigh-absolute invulnerability to learn more), equilibrium, evasion, flexibility (to the point that she can even shift around her internal organs), leaping, lung capacity, precision, reflexes, senses, speed, stamina, and strength.Although she does use magic to compensate for some of her (comparatively) weaker physical abilities (namely her strength and durability), she is still rather impressive even when she doesn't use magic to give herself a buff. For example, her natural agility and flexibility significantly exceed that of the greatest Olympic-level athletes and circus contortionists respectively. (Whenever she does use magic to augment her physical abilities, the limit is still unknown as magic is an endless energy source). The major drawback of physical condition buffs is that the longer that Po uses magic to boost her physical capabilities, the more demanding it will become for her to maintain her boosted levels. She won't die if she over-exerts herself but she will pass out. Lastly, the longest time that Po has ever been knocked out because of magic exertion was a few days.

Thermal Resistance.   Po can survive in extreme temperatures without experiencing severe discomfort.Transcendent Merfolk Physiology.   Po has the physical and supernatural capabilities of divine merfolk.Common merfolk characteristics include aquatic adaptation (naturally), scale manifestation, tail manifestation, clear underwater senses, incredibly swift swimming, and effective water maneuverability. Merfolk, in general, can usually be classified as marine mammals. Depending on where some live, though, they can be less mammal-like in not only appearance but also in diet, lifestyle, and physiology. The environmental adaptations that they have tends to closely follow the ones of the locals. If they live in the deep sea, for example, they might have a bioluminescent tail and be solitary hunters who prey upon whatever meal comes their way. What makes divine merfolk distinct from their mortal counterparts is their immortality as well as their ability to grow legs without the need for magical assistance. They also take aquatic adaptation to the next level. Whereas merfolk from the sunlit areas of the ocean might struggle adapting to the cold darkness of the abyss, for example, they would be equally comfortable in the light and in total darkness. Also, while mortal merfolk can vary wildly in beauty, it is the norm for divine merfolk to be inhumanly beautiful (or, at the very least, pleasant to look at). As always, though, there are exceptions to every rule. The elder sea gods, Ceto and Phorcys, for instance, have an eerie look about them that some might even describe as "unsettling." (It doesn't help their case that they have birthed an entire race of sea monsters together.)Vacuum Adaptation.   Po is able to survive in the vacuum of space unaided thanks to both her radiation immunity and her immunity to high-pressure and low-pressure environments. (It also certainly doesn't hurt that she's a master of both void magic and celestial magic.)Varied Reproduction.   While Po is perfectly capable of having human-looking children, she is also able to produce inhuman children. (For an example, look no further than the sea monster Charybdis). Essentially, this makes it so that the odds of her producing either a human-looking child or an inhuman one are all up to a coin toss.Vertigo Immunity.   Po is immune to the effects of vertigo including (but not limited to) motion sickness, nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness, and disorientation so long as she is in her domain.Water Immunity.   Given Po's status as a sea goddess, this ability should come to no surprise. Water simply cannot harm her—not even water of a mystical nature. Thus, any attempts to use water-based attacks against her would be fruitless as that would only make her stronger.

equipment

Trident.     The famed weapon of the sea, forged by the Elder Cyclopes for Poseida, herself. This legendary weapon is known for its extraordinary shifting abilities and for having a mind of its own. → read moreInterdimensional Storage.     Unlike her trident, Poseida's interdimensional storage (or bag of holding as it is informally called) has no distinctive appearance. It more than makes up for that in its versatility (and storability). Any one of her purses or bags can serve as the "home" of her interdimensional storage. (You see what I mean by versatility?) Her grimoire is one of the many things she keeps in there. She also uses her interdimensional storage as a place to store her woodland cottage so, that it doesn't wither into ruins.Grimoire.     Poseida's grimoire is a heavy tome of spells that she can coax to open for her by tickling its spine. It also houses recipes for magical concoctions such as potions, elixirs, tinctures, brews, and even teas.

    ♆  abilities  ♆

limitations

Hydration Need.     While she can’t die from dehydration—being a goddess and all—Po does start to feel severely weakened if she goes a significant amount of time without being submerged in water.
Selective Fire Immunity.     While her oceanic nature does render her immune to most flames, supernaturally-caused flames—such as those created by a fellow divine entity—can cause her physical harm due to her icy core. She'll only suffer superficial burns at worst, though, thanks to the magic flowing through her veins.
The Sun Hates Her, & the Feeling's Mutual.     Much like how the moon influences the push and pull of the tides, so does the moon influence aquatic deities. Whenever under the light of a full moon, Po’s powers over water are heightened; conversely her powers are weaker during the day—especially during a lunar eclipse.
Deserts Can Go Fuck Themselves.     While she wouldn’t exactly be powerless if she was dropped onto a desert, she would be rendered much less effective as the intense heat of the desert sun would make waterbending not very viable. (Also, the heat of the sun would just drain her mentally; physically, though, she'd be fine.)
(Limited) Omniscience.     Unlike the God of the Abrahamic religions, Poseida is only omniscient to a certain degree (mainly when dealing with matters that preside over her domain—and, even then, she doesn’t know absolutely everything that goes on in the ocean all at once).
She ain't No Mister Fantastic.     While she does have the power of elasticity, her capabilities with this power are limited compared to the capabilities of elastic superheroes (or supervillains). Compressing her form is no problem for her and she can even render her form two-dimensional if she wishes. She falters, though, when it comes to stretching her body in extreme ways. The longest distance that she can cross with an extended limb is only a few meters.
Immortality Sold Separately.     Although Po's divine vessels are able to harness her divine essence (and are even able to serve as her mouthpiece), their bodies are still mortal and, thus, can still perish.
No Reality Breaking Here.     While reality warping is accepted as a magical art for all who practice void magic, it is forbidden to warp reality on a major scale because it risks tampering with things that should have been left untampered with.
No Hiding During the Day.     Invisibility spell doesn’t work during the day unless there is a solar eclipse.
How Do You Fly With These Things?!     Flying has a steep learning curve. It took Poseida countless tries to learn how to fly with her new magic wings and, in the end, she only managed to do so when one of her loved ones was in grave danger. Although she has improved by leaps and bound by now, she is still not as fast as a natural-born flyer.
Magic May Have a Price.     This is especially the case if the mage is either distracted or hindered from casting a spell correctly. Also, sometimes a curse cannot be broken no matter how skilled a mage may be.Power Reflection Can't Save You From Being Punched. Exactly what it says. Power reflection can only counter abilities that are non-physical in nature. It would be useless against magic-less martial artists. On top of that, it only works at night when the moon is visible, or when there's a solar eclipse.
Fate Rules Over All. Even the gods cannot defy fate. In a similar vein, the gods cannot intervene if it is a mortal's rightful time to pass.
Not Immune to the Effects of Tartarus. Entering Tartarus can mentally debilitate Po (though not as much as it would a mortal). Fortunately, though, her psychic shields have been able to build up considerable resistance to it and the psychic damage is now much easier to withstand—to the point that she now rarely suffers more than a wince.
Turns Out That Being Mindless Can Be a Major Perk. Po's psychic abilities would be ineffective against mindless beings (corpses, animated scarecrows, robots, etc.) on account of them having, well, no mind for her to interact with.

    ♆  magic system  ♆

the basics

Magic Definition.     To start, what is magic? Magic is a primal force that has been around for as long as the primordial gods have. Magic is everywhere. It is in the air we breathe in, the natural waters we swim in, and the ground we walk on. It is present in the life force of the smallest butterfly and flows through the veins of the ferocious monsters of the deep. It is even present in humans (albeit subdued until it's encouraged to come out). And, as one might expect, it especially flows through the veins of supernatural beings. Presence alone, though, is not enough to make someone a mage. One only earns that title after dedicating oneself to the study of, at least, one type of magic.Type of Magic System.     Subject to change but the overall goal is to land somewhere on the Hard-Rational side of the spectrum. → read moreMagic Categorization.     The primary sources of magic are as follows: the Ocean, the Moon, the Sun, the Cosmos, the Aether, the Void¹, Time, the Natural Realm, and Life. Mages refer to the types of magic that derive their power from these sources as Thalassic Magic, Lunar Magic, Solar Magic, Celestial Magic, Aether Magic, Void Magic², Clockwork Magic, Nature Magic, and Blood Magic (respectively). In addition to these major types, there are also many arcane schools. These schools are categorized by function. They are known as the School of Alchemy, the School of Augmentation, the School of Bardsmanship, the School of Construction, the School of Divination, the School of Enchantment, the School of Illusions, the School of Necromancy, the School of Pharmacy, and, finally, the School of Transmutation.¹ The Void is a subtle way to refer to Chaos, the void that emerged at the universe's creation.
² Void Magic is, thus, also known as Chaos Magic or—if one is feeling fancy—Entropic Magic.

Magic Functionality.     If a mage does not perform a spell correctly or if they lack the power to make it come to fruition, then the spell has a greater chance of backfiring on them. In serious cases, a spell that has backfired can even lead to one's potential demise. If a mage somehow manages to survive after, say, fucking up a complex ritual, then they will bear a magical scar as a reminder of either their hubris or incompetence. This harsh reality is why elder mages always emphasize to their apprentices the importance of remembering that magic is not a toy.Gods can also obtain magical scars but theirs do not appear on their physical form. Instead, their magical scars appear on their divine form. Like snowflakes, magical scars don't look exactly alike. Their appearance, though, can be influenced by the type of magic that the mage was performing at the time of their mishap. To give an example, lunar magic-based magical scars are known to evoke a moon motif.Moving onto lighter matters, incantations are the most common method that mages use to perform magic, but they can also make magic work for them in other ways. If a mage has casted a spell successfully for a sufficient amount of times, for instance, they can then learn how to cast the spell silently. → read more

The Primary Types of Magic

Thalassic Magic.
The magic of mutability.

Thalassic magic draws its power from the ocean's depths and everchanging tides as well as all waters that lead to the sea.

Lunar Magic.
The magic of misdirection.

Lunar magic draws its power from the light and energy of the moon. Much like its title suggests, it is mainly defensive in nature. Ideal for a rogue, it can allow its user to slip by enemies undetected. Lunar magic is also known for affecting the realm of emotions. Even a novice can sense other people's emotions. A master mage, though, would be able to pull a Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss with the help of lunar magic's emotion manipulation abilities. As unsettling as that might sound, however, that doesn't hold a candle to lunar magic's illusion spells. Masters of illusions are able to make illusions feel so real, that they run the risk of mind-breaking their victims.Lunar magic is strongest during the night—especially during a full moon. It is weakest when the night sky has a new moon.

Solar Magic.
The magic of passion.

Solar magic draws its power from the warmth and energy of the sun.Solar magic is strongest during the day—especially during the summer months. It is also heavily concentrated in areas that have warm weather throughout the entire year. It is weakest during a solar eclipse. It is also not as strong during the coldest days of the year.

Celestial Magic.
The magic of wonder.

Celestial magic draws its power from the stars and the boundless vacuum that is space.

Aether Magic.
The magic of freedom.

Aether magic draws its power from the vast, clear sky that surrounds us all.

Void Magic.
The magic of possibilities.

Void magic draws its power from Chaos, itself.

Clockwork Magic.
The magic of balance.

Clockwork magic draws its power from the ebb and flow of time.

Nature Magic.
The magic of harmony.

Nature magic draws its power from the earth and the creatures that inhabit it.Nature magic is strongest in areas that are unsoiled by mankind. It is weakest in highly industrial areas. It also does not fare as well in areas that are full of pollution.

Blood Magic.
The magic of necessity.

Blood magic draws its power from the life force in any given living organism.

Sing, Nereides, of Poseida, star-eyed mother of the visionary Atlanteans.

    ♆  résumé  ♆

    credentials

Super Genius-Level Intellect.     Poseida is an extraordinarily bright goddess who soaks up information like a sponge. She has created numerous animals when she was only 13 (a noteworthy feat because creating life requires tremendous skill and a delicate touch). She has also invented countless spells and magical concoctions. Her genius even extends to the arts and sciences. A prolific creator, she has produced many great works of art and made instrumental contributions to the field of science. Last (but not least), she has built an advanced civilization from the ground-up that lasted for many generations—the Atlanteans and their mythic city.

Archmage.     Through intense years of study and practice, Poseida has become a well-renowned master of the mystic arts.Eidetic Memory.     Poseida's eidetic memory allows her to retain and recall information that she has seen with great accuracy—even if she had only seen it for a brief moment. This has helped her master many diverse fields of study.Expert Medic.     While Poseida is no goddess of medicine, she does demonstrate a proficient understanding of how to heal someone thanks to training under her fellow sea gods (which was supplemented by independent study).Expert Tactician.     Wartime has given Poseida an adept ability to come up with battle tactics on the spot and adapt her plans when needed, unfazed.

Master Acrobat.     Nimble since her youth, Poseida was a natural acrobat. She can perform stunts that even the most daring of mortal acrobats might think twice about doing and has been known to balance herself in high places as a subconscious way to relax.Master Martial Artist.     After training extensively under Bia when she was in her youth, Poseida gained a newfound appreciation for the art of combat and added it to the list of knowledge that she wanted to devour—and devour it she did. Her skill as a hand-to-hand combatant is so great, in fact, that she can take on several armed men on her own without breaking a sweat. → read moreMaster Scientist.     No slouch in the art of science either, Poseida possesses multidisciplinary scientific knowledge. While she is not necessarily an expert in all of them, she is an expert on most of them and has adequate knowledge of the ones that she is not an expert in.

Polearm Mastery.     Despite her short stature, Poseida demonstrates great skill with a polearm. (Her weapon of choice isn't the trident for nothing, you know.) With this lovechild of staff and blade, she can perform powerful lunges and quickly overwhelm an unprepared opponent. She can even throw it with deadly accuracy.

Battle-Ax Proficiency.     Although not the first weapon she would pick out for herself to use, Poseida, nevertheless, has shown considerable skill in wielding a battle-ax.Dagger Mastery.     The first true weapon she ever learned—the humble dagger. In her hands, daggers are even deadlier than the world's sharpest sword. When she strikes with these, she's as silent as an assassin—and as merciless as one, too.Lasso Proficiency.     As the patron goddess of all things Yee-Haw, it should come as no surprise that Poseida knows her way around one of these bad boys. She's capable enough with a lasso, that she's able to round up three opponents at once.

Staff Mastery.     More nimble than a monkey, Poseida can wield a staff as if it was an extension of her own arm. She is so swift with a staff, that it looks like a whirlwind in her hands.Sword Mastery.     Talented marksman she may be but Poseida feels more at home wielding a sword. Capable of dueling with dual blades, she uses them to maneuver swiftly around her opponent in a technique that she likes to call the water dance.Whip Proficiency.     She shudders at the thought of ever using a whip on an animal—but would gladly use it on another person if they'd be into it. (Please remember the safe word, though!) In combat, her lashes are so precise, that they can cause bleeding and leave a rough mark.

Languages Known.     Poseida is fluent in the following languages: Ancient (and Modern) Greek, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Mandarin (and Cantonese) Chinese, as well as Japanese—and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. As a goddess, she learns new languages at an accelerated rate compared to mortals. Thus, she has accumulated a vast library of foreign tongues throughout her many years of living.Education.     Although she lacked formal education during her formative years, she compensated by ardently seeking out apprenticeships and learning various trades such as hunting from Leto, medicine from her sea god allies, and craftsmanship from the Elder Cyclopes. She also studied under her uncles, the Telkhines. They tutored her in the delicate (and often dangerous) art of sorcery. Much later down the road, she went on to explore university multiple times—most notably (not to mention fondly) in Florence, Italy during the height of the Renaissance.

Etymology
The origins behind Poseida's name are shrouded in mystery. One possible interpretation claims that her name means lady of the earth. Other name interpretations include mistress of waters and she knew many things. One thing is for certain, though, and that is that Poseida serves as the feminine version of the name that she was given at birth (a deliberate move on her part as a way of honoring her mother).

Homeric Hymn 22 (trans. H. G. Evelyn-White), To Poseida (Greek epic composed circa 7th or circa 6th B.C.) :
❝ I begin to sing about Poseida, the great goddess, mover of the earth and fruitless sea, goddess of the deep who is also lady of Helicon and wide Aegae. A two-fold office the gods allotted you, O Shaker of the Earth, to be a tamer of horses and a saviour of ships! Hail, Poseida, Holder of the Earth, red-haired queen! O blessed one, be kindly in heart and help those who voyage in ships! ❞
Orphic Hymn 16 (trans. Thomas Taylor), To Poseida (Greek hymns composed circa 3rd B.C. — 2nd A.D.) :
❝ Hear, Neptunia [Poseida], ruler of the sea profound, whose liquid grasp begirts the solid ground;
Who, at the bottom of the stormy main, dark and deep-bosom'd, hold'st thy wat'ry reign;
Thy awful hand the silver trident bears, and ocean's utmost bound, thy will reveres:
Thee I invoke, whose steeds the foam divide, from whose red locks the briny waters glide;
Whose voice loud founding thro' the roaring deep, drives all its billows, in a raging heap;
When fiercely riding thro' the boiling sea, thy hoarse command the trembling waves obey.
Earth shaking, red-hair'd Goddess, the liquid plains (the third division) Fate to thee ordains,
'Tis thine, cærulian dæmon, to survey well pleas'd the monsters of the ocean play,
Confirm earth's basis, and with prosp'rous gales waft ships along, and swell the spacious sails;
Add gentle Peace, and fair-hair'd Health beside, and pour abundance in a blameless tide.❞
The Orphic Argonautica, To Poseida (author unknown; date estimated to be between 200 CE and 250 CE) :
❝ Hear me, Poseida, you who hold the earth, you with your red mane-
Lady of horses, you who grip in your hands the trident wrought of silver-
You who inhabit the foundations of the deep-bosomed sea-
Mistress of the ocean who make its depths resound, loud-thundering earth-shaker-
You for whom the waves bloom and blossom, giver of grace, driving your four-horse chariot
And shaking the watery brine until it fills with ripples-
You who received the deep stream of the sea as the third portion-
You who delight in waves and wild beasts alike, guardian spirit of the ocean:
May you keep safe the earth’s foundations and the swift-running voyage of ships,
As you bring with you peace, health, and prosperity that incurs no reproach. ❞
The Knights, an Ancient Greek Comedy (Aristophanes) :
Simon: Praying
Oh, Lady! Oh, Lady, protector and lover of horses!
Lover of the brazen clang and thud of the horses’ hooves, lover of the horses’ neighing. Lover, too, of the swift war ships with their blue emblems of rams at the prow!
Oh, Goddess, whose heart gladdens at the sight of the rich booty those ships carry! A heart that also gladdens at the sight of young men in contest, particularly when they climb proudly upon their chariots chasing their Fate—victory or defeat, no matter!
Come, Goddess of the horse, come now and join our dance!
Poseida, Goddess of the silver trident, come join us!
Panaetius:
Goddess, chief of the dolphins!
Goddess whose name is praised at Sounion!
Goddess, daughter of Kronos Geraestus!
Goddess, most loved by the folk of Phormion to whom you granted a naval victory!
Goddess most loved by all the citizens of Athens at this hour of their naval need! ❞

    The Iliad

(trans. Samuel Butler)

Book VII (pg. 120).    ❝ Now in the twilight when it was not yet dawn, chosen bands of the Achaeans were gathered around the pyre and built one barrow that was raised in common for all, and hard by this they built a high wall to shelter themselves and their ships. They gave it strong gates that there might be a way through them for their chariots, and close outside it they dug a trench deep and wide, and they planted it with stakes. Thus did the Achaeans toil, and the gods, seated by the side of Zeus, the lord of lightning, marveled at their great work; but Poseida, lady of the earthquake, spoke, saying, “Father Zeus, what mortal in the whole world will again take the gods into his counsel? See you not how the Achaeans have built a wall about their ships and driven a trench all around it, without offering hecatombs to the gods? The fame of this wall will reach as far as dawn itself, and men will no longer think anything of the one which Phoebus Apollo and myself built with so much labor for Laomedon.”Zeus was displeased and answered: “What, O Shaker of the Earth, are you talking about? A god less powerful than yourself might be alarmed at what they are doing, but your fame reaches as far as dawn itself. Surely when the Achaeans have gone home with their ships, you can shatter their wall and fling it into the sea; you can cover the beach with sand again, and the great wall of the Achaeans will then be utterly effaced.” ❞Book XIII (pg. 202).    ❝ As she spoke, the earth-encircling lady of the earthquake struck both of them with her scepter and filled their hearts with daring. She made their legs light and active, as also their hands and their feet. Then, as the soaring falcon poises on the wing high above some sheer rock, and presently swoops down to chase some bird over the plain, even so did Poseida, lady of the earthquake, wing her flight into the air and leave them.Book XIII (pg. 205).    ❝ Poseida was exceedingly angry that her grandson Amphimachus should have fallen. She, therefore, went to the tents and ships of the Achaeans to urge the Danaans still further, and to devise evil for the Trojans.Book XIII (pg. 217).    ❝ Thus then they fight as it were a flaming fire. But Hector had not yet heard, and did not know that the Argives were making havoc of his men on the left wing of the battle, where the Achaeans ere long would have triumphed over them, so vigorously did Poseida cheer them on and help them.Book XIV (pg. 230).    ❝ Sleep now departed and went his ways to and fro among mankind, leaving Poseida more eager than ever to help the Danaans. She darted forward among the first ranks and shouted, saying: “Argives, shall we let Hector, son of Priam, have the triumph of taking our ships and covering himself with glory? This is what he says that he shall now do, seeing that Achilles is still in dudgeon at his ships. We shall get on very well without him if we keep each other in heart and stand by one another. Now, therefore, let us all do as I say. Let us each take the best and largest shield we can lay hold of, put on our helmets, and sally forth with our longest spears in our hands. I will lead you on, and Hector, son of Priam, rage as he may, will not dare to hold out against us. If any good staunch soldier has only a small shield, let him hand it over to a worse man, and take a larger one for himself.”Thus did she speak, and they did even as she had said. The son of Tydeus, Odysseus, and Agamemnon, wounded though they were, set the others in array, and went about everywhere effecting the exchanges of armor; the most valiant took the best armor, and gave the worse to the worse man. When they had donned their bronze armor, they marched on with Poseida at their head. In her strong hand, she grasped her terrible sword, keen of edge and flashing like lightning. Woe to him who comes across it in the day of battle; all men quake for fear and keep away from it.Book XV (pg. 238-240).    ❝ Thereon Hera left them and resumed her seat inside, while Iris and Apollo made haste on their way. When they reached many-fountained Ida, mother of wild beasts, they found Zeus seated on topmost Gargarus with a fragrant cloud encircling his head as with a diadem. They stood before his presence, and he was pleased with them for having been so quick in obeying the orders his wife had given them.He spoke to Iris first. “Go,” said he, “fleet Iris, tell Queen Poseida what I now bid you—and tell her true. Bid her leave off fighting, and either join the company of the gods, or go down into the sea. If she takes no heed and disobeys me, let her consider well whether she is strong enough to hold her own against me if I attack her. I am older and much stronger than she is; yet she is not afraid to set herself up as on a level with myself, of whom all the gods stand in awe.”Iris, fleet as the wind, obeyed him, and as the cold hail or snowflakes that fly from out the clouds before the blast of Boreas, even so did she wing her way till she came close up to the great shaker of the earth. Then she said: “I have come, O red-haired queen that holds the world in her embrace, to bring you a message from Zeus. He bids you leave off fighting, and either join the company of the gods, or go down into the sea. If, however, you take no heed and disobey him, he says he will come down here and fight you. He would have you keep out of his reach, for he is older and much stronger than you are, and yet you are not afraid to set yourself up as on a level with himself, of whom all the gods stand in awe.”Poseida was very angry and said: “Great heavens! Strong as Zeus may be, he has said more than he can do if he has threatened violence against me, who am of like honor with himself. We were three siblings whom Rhea bore to Cronus—Zeus, myself, and Hades who rules the world below. Heaven and earth were divided into three parts, and each of us was to have an equal share. When we cast lots, it fell to me to have my dwelling in the sea forevermore. Hades took the darkness of the realms under the earth, while air and sky and clouds were the portion that fell to Zeus; but earth and great Olympus are the common property of all. Therefore I will not walk as Zeus would have me. For all his strength, let him keep to his own third share and be contented without threatening to lay hands upon me as though I were nobody. Let him keep his bragging talk for his own sons and daughters, who must perforce obey him.”Iris, fleet as the wind, then answered: “Am I really, Poseida, to take this daring and unyielding message to Zeus, or will you reconsider our answer? Sensible people are open to argument, and you know that the Erinyes always range themselves on the side of the older person.”Poseida answered: “Goddess Iris, your words have been spoken in season. It is good when a messenger shows so much discretion. Nevertheless, it cuts me to the very heart that anyone should rebuke so angrily another who is his own peer, and of like empire with himself. Now, however, I will give way in spite of my displeasure; furthermore let me tell you, and I mean what I say—if contrary to the desire of myself, Athene, driver of the spoil, Hera, Hermes, and Lord Hephaestus, Zeus spares steep Ilium, and will not let the Achaeans have the great triumph of sacking it, let him understand that he incur our implacable resentment.”Poseida now left the field to go down under the sea, and sorely did the Achaeans miss her.Book XX (pg. 328-329).    ❝ Then answered Hera: “Earthshaker, look to this matter yourself, and consider concerning Aeneas, whether you will save him, or suffer him, brave though he be, to fall by the hand of Achilles, son of Peleus. For of a truth we two, I and Pallas Athene, have sworn full many a time before all the immortals, that never would we shield Trojans from destruction, not even when all Troy is burning in the flames that the Achaeans shall kindle.”When earth-encircling Poseida heard this, she went into the battle amid the clash of spears and came to the place where Achilles and Aeneas were. Forthwith she shed a darkness before the eyes of the son of Peleus, drew the bronze-headed ashen spear from the shield of Aeneas, and laid it at the feet of Achilles. Then she lifted Aeneas on high from off the earth and hurried him away. Over the heads of many a band of warriors both horse and foot did he soar as the goddess’s hand sped him, til he came to the very fringe of the battle where the Cauconians were arming themselves for fight.Poseida, shaker of the earth, then came near to him and said: “Aeneas, what god has egged you on to this folly in fighting the son of Peleus, who is both a mightier man of valor and more beloved of heaven than you are? Give way before him whensoever you meet him, lest you go down to the house of Hades even though fate would have it otherwise. When Achilles is dead, you may then fight among the foremost undaunted, for none other of the Achaeans shall slay you.”

    The Odyssey

(trans. Samuel Butler)

Book V (pg. 487-488).    ❝ But Queen Poseida, who was returning from the Ethiopians, caught sight of Odysseus a long way off, from the mountains of the Solymi. She could see him sailing upon the sea, and it made her very angry, so she wagged her head and muttered to herself, saying, “Good heavens, so the gods have been changing their minds about Odysseus while I was away in Ethiopia, and now he is close to the land of the Phaeacians, where it is decreed that he shall escape from the calamities that have befallen him. Still, he shall have plenty of hardship yet before he is done with it.”Therefore she gathered her clouds together, grasped her trident, stirred it round in the sea, and roused the rage of every wind that blows till earth, sea, and sky were hidden in cloud, and night sprang forth out of the heavens. Winds from east, south, north, and west fell upon Odysseus all at the same time, and a tremendous sea got up so that his heart began to fail him.“Alas,” Odysseus said to himself in his dismay, “whatever will become of me? I am afraid Calypso was right when she said I should have trouble by sea before I got home. It is all coming true. How black is Zeus making heaven with his clouds, and what a sea the winds are raising from every quarter at once. I am now safe to perish. Blest and thrice blest were those Danaans who fell before Troy in the cause of the sons of Atreus. Would that I had been killed on that day when the Trojans were pressing me so sorely about the dead body of Achilles for then I should have had due burial and the Achaeans would have honored my name, but now it seems I shall come to a most pitiful end.”As he spoke, a sea broke over him with such terrific fury that the raft reeled again, and he was carried overboard a long way off. He let go the helm, and the force of the hurricane was so great, that it broke the mast halfway up, and both sail and yard went over into the sea. For a long time, Odysseus was underwater, and it was all he could do to ride to the surface again for the clothes Calypso had given him weighed him down; but, at last, he got his head above water and spat out the bitter brine that was running down his face in streams. In spite of all this, however, he did not lose sight of his raft, but swam as fast as he could towards it, got hold of it, and climbed on board again so as to escape drowning. The sea took the raft and tossed it about as autumn winds whirl thistledown round and round upon a road. It was as though the south, north, east, and west winds were all playing battledore and shuttlecock with it at once.Book VIII (pg. 519-520).    ❝ . . . and the blessed gods roared with inextinguishable laughter, as they saw how cunning Hephaestus had been, whereon one would turn towards his neighbor, saying: “Ill deeds do not prosper, and the weak confound the strong. See how limping Hephaestus, lame as he is, has caught Ares, who is the fleetest god in heaven; and now Ares will be cast in heavy damages.”Thus did they converse, but Lord Apollo said to Hermes, “Messenger Hermes, giver of good things, you would not care how strong the chains were, would you, if you could sleep with Aphrodite?”“Lord Apollo,” answered Hermes, “I only wish I might get the chance, though there were three times as many chains—and you might look on, all of you, gods and goddesses, but I would sleep with her if I could.”The immortal gods burst out laughing as they heard him, but Poseida took it all seriously, and kept on imploring Hephaestus to set Ares free again. “Let him go,” she cried, “and I will undertake, as you require, that he shall pay you all the damages that are held reasonable among the immortal gods.”“Do not,” replied Hephaestus, “ask me to do this; a bad man's bond is bad security. What remedy could I enforce against you if Ares should go away and leave his debts behind him along with his chains?”“Hephaestus,” said Poseida, “if Ares goes away without paying his damages, I will pay you, myself.”So Hephaestus answered, “In this case, I cannot and must not refuse you.” Thereon he loosed the bonds that bound them, and, as soon as they were free, they scampered off, Ares to Thrace and laughter-loving Aphrodite to Cyprus and to Paphos, where is her grove and her altar fragrant with burnt offerings. Here the Graces bathed her, and anointed her with oil of ambrosia such as the immortal gods make use of, and they clothed her in raiment of the most enchanting beauty. ❞Book XIII (pg. 587-588).    ❝ But Poseida did not forget the threats with which she had already threatened Odysseus, so she took counsel with Zeus. “Father Zeus,” said she, “I shall no longer be held in any sort of respect among you gods, if mortals like the Phaeacians, who are my own flesh and blood, show such small regard for me. I said I would let Odysseus get home when he had suffered sufficiently. I did not say that he would never get home at all, for I knew you had already nodded your head about it, and promised that he would do so. But now they have brought him in a ship fast asleep and have landed him in Ithaca, after loading him with more magnificent presents of bronze, gold, and raiment than he would ever have brought back from Troy, if he had had his share of the spoil and got home without misadventure.”And Zeus answered: “What, O Lady of the Earthquake, are you talking about? The gods are by no means wanting in respect for you. It would be monstrous were they to insult one so old and honored as you are. With regards to mortals, however, if any of them is indulging in insolence and treating you disrespectfully, it will always rest with yourself to deal with him as you may think proper, so do just as you please.”“I should have done so at once,” replied Poseida, “if I were not anxious to avoid anything that might displease you; now, therefore, I should like to wreck the Phaeacian ship as it is returning from its escort. This will stop them from escorting people in the future; and I should also like to bury their city under a huge mountain.”“My good friend,” answered Zeus, “I would recommend you at the very moment when the people from the city are watching the ship on her way, to turn it into a rock near the island and looking like a ship. This will astonish everybody, and you can then bury their city under the mountain.”When earth-encircling Poseida heard this, she went to Scheria where the Phaeacians live and stayed there till the ship, which was making rapid way, had got close in. Then she went up to it, turned it into stone, and drove it down with the flat of her hand so as to root it in the ground. After this, she went away.

The Theogony, an Ancient Greek poem composed circa 730–700 BC. by Hesiod (trans. H. G. Evelyn-White) :
❝ And amongst the foremost Kottos (Cottus) and Briareos (Briareus) and Gyes insatiate for war raised fierce fighting : three hundred rocks, one upon another, they launched from their strong hands and overshadowed the Titanes with their missiles, and buried them beneath the wide-pathed earth, and bound them in bitter chains when they had conquered them by their strength for all their great spirit, as far beneath the earth to Tartaros . . . There by the counsel of Zeus who drives the clouds the Titan gods are hidden under misty gloom, in a dank place where are the ends of the huge earth. And they may not go out; for Poseida fixed gates of bronze upon it, and a wall runs all round it on every side. There [the Hekatonkheires] Gyes and Kottos and great-souled Obriareus live, trusty warders of Zeus who holds the aegis . . . ❝ Arriving in Aithiopia (Ethiopia), which Kepheus (Cepheus) ruled, Perseus came upon the king's daughter Andromeda laid out as a meal for a Ketos (Cetus, Sea-Monster). It seems that the king's wife Kassiepeia (Cassiopeia) had challenged the Nereides in beauty, boasting that she outdid them all. As a result the Nereides were in a rage, and Poseida in sympathetic anger sent a flood-tide upon the land and a ketos as well. The oracle of Ammon prophesied an end to the trouble if Kassiopeia's daughter Andromeda were served up to the Ketos as a meal, so Kepheus, pushed to it by the Aithiopians (Ethiopians), tied his daughter out on a rock. When Perseus saw her it was love at first sight, and he promised to kill the ketos and rescue the girl in return for her hand. Oaths were sworn, after which Perseus faced and slew the Ketos, and set Andromeda free. ❞

the prologue

ㅤㅤㅤDescending into madness had a funny way of starting with prophecies in Poseida’s family.ㅤㅤㅤWhen Kronos—Greek Titan God of Time, King of the Titans, and Ruler of the Cosmos during the legendary Golden Age—castrated and disposed of his father, starry Ouranos, he had received a prophecy that he, in an ironic twist of fate, would be dethroned by one of his own offspring, by one of his own sons. Which one of the little brats would bring about his undoing Kronos knew not and cared not even less. The prospect of a son becoming mighty—mightier than him—and dismantling all that he has built unnerved him. One might think that his daughters would be spared from this fear of his but that is not so. His mother, Gaea—the Primordial Earth, itself, and the Great Mother of All Creation—was a cunning creature just like he was. Kronos knew better than to underestimate women, to underestimate the wiles his daughters could develop.ㅤㅤㅤThus, one by one, he consumed his first five children.ㅤㅤㅤKronos swallowed Hestia whole when she was a darling princess of the age of five. Maybe six. Try as he may to keep his paranoia at bay by being as loving a father as he could be to his eldest daughter, his paranoia festered once he saw the devastation Hestia’s flames unwittingly caused to part of her room. The day Demeter was born, he swallowed his two children in one go. When Hera and Hades were born, he swallowed them the instant he had his hands on them.ㅤㅤㅤFurious, Rhea began plotting against Kronos.ㅤㅤㅤAs the rich-haired queen was pregnant with their fifth child, Poseida, she conceived a plan to save her—but the stress proved too much for her, resulting in her giving birth about two months early. Alerted by the cries of baby Poseida, Kronos quickly found Rhea’s location in one of the baths in the servants' quarters and snatched their newborn daughter from her.ㅤㅤㅤHowever, not all hope was lost.ㅤㅤㅤUsing Apate’s girdle of deceit, Rhea tricked her husband into swallowing a stone swaddled in a blanket instead of their youngest child, Zeus. Zeus then grew up—and grew up strong—hidden away from his father and raised by his grandmother on Mount Ida in Crete. In time, the young, beardless Zeus liberated his older siblings from their infernal prison with the help of shrewd Metis, a trusted counselor. Together, the six Kronides and their allies eventually overpowered the opposing Titans after a long and bloody war and dethroned their father—just as it was prophesied.ㅤㅤㅤThese victors—these child warriors—earned splendid gifts, indeed.ㅤㅤㅤWise Zeus, the leader of them all, was crowned the King of Olympus, and the Fates bestowed upon him the sky as his domain. Glorious Hera, goddess of marriage and the stars of heaven, shared Zeus’s throne as his stately queen. Their brother, noble Hades, became lord of the gloomy underworld while their youngest sister, beast-taming Poseida, claimed the vast seas. The Ancient Greeks came to greatly honor gentle Hestia, believing that she, the virgin goddess of the hearth and home, dwelled in the inner part of every house. As for Demeter, she, the goddess of agriculture with the lovely tresses, sustained mankind with the earth's rich bounty.ㅤㅤㅤAnd so a new age had begun...

    Year 7,000 BC → Age 0.
Born to Queen Rhea in the small bath of the servants’ quarters, Poseida came into this world far before her time. A sniveling, little thing, she barely weighed 3 pounds and was as delicate as a butterfly. Her father, King Kronos, discovered where her mother kept her hidden. Weakened from the taxing labor, Rhea struggled to fight him off. Startled, the infant Poseida cried so hard, that she set off a minor earthquake. Snatching her away from Rhea’s arms, Kronos swiftly swallowed her.

During this lengthy passage of time, Poseida waited out the years in her father's stomach prison with only her elder siblings as company. Despite her disheartening situation, she never gave into despair and held on tight to the belief that she would one day be free.

    Year 6,988 BC → Age 12.
The dawn of the Titanomachy (or Titan's War), a bloody war that would last 10 years. Frightened by the idea of fighting anyone, Poseida stayed out of the battlefield and made herself useful elsewhere—mainly in the kitchen.

    Year 6,987 BC → Age 13.
Poseida came out as transgender to her family and her allies. She then started to fully transition. Cue her experiencing gender euphoria like she had never had before. For the first time in her life, she was starting to truly feel like herself.
    Year 6,986 BC → Age 14.
Poseida gained the desire to learn how to fight after her eldest sister, Hestia, got hurt while trying to protect her. Instead of helping, she could do nothing but stand there, frozen in fear, as Hestia fended off their trespassing assailant. It was from that moment on that she swore never to let fear get the best of her ever again.
    Year 6,985 BC → Age 15.
Thanks to ingenuity—and a lot of trial and error (which may or may not have led to the creation of other animals in the process)—Poseida created the first horse, Arion. Arion was a total game changer. Stunning and swift, he was the perfect noble steed. The Telkhines took notice of how impressive Poseida's ability to create life was and decided to take her on as a student in the magical arts around this time as well.
    Year 6,981 BC → Age 19.

    adulthood & beyond

    Year 6,979 BC → Age 21.
With the help of her siblings, Poseida rescued her uncles, the Elder Cyclopes, from their prison. As a show of gratitude, the Elder Cyclopes not only crafted new weapons for them but also joined them on the battlefield.
  Year 6,979 BC →   Age 21.
Poseida gained new mentors in the form of the Elder Cyclopes. Under their tutelage, she learned all about construction and craftsmanship.
    Year 6,978 BC → Age 22.
Finally, after many bloody years, the Titanomachy ended with the then-young Olympians as the victors—just as predicted. Soon after their victory, Zeus, Poseida, and Hades—who would later on come to be known as "the Big Three"—drew lots to decide what their share of the world would be.
    Year 6,978 BC → Age 22.
Poseida fixed strong gates of bronze for the prison that would soon enough house the Titans. After this endeavor, she began drawing up blueprints for future building projects—namely her undersea palace.
    Year 6,978 BC → Age 22.
It finally had dawned on Poseida that she was starting to fall for her long-time friend, Nerites. Fortunately for her, he felt the same way and they began to date (or rather he began to court her as was the custom back then).
   Year 6,975 BC →  Age 25.
Nerites and Poseida were officially wedded. Not only that but they were expecting their first child. All was well.
    Year 6,978 BC → Age 25.
Nerites and Poseida's first child, Anteros—the god of requited love—was born. Poseida had never known true bliss until the moment she first held her precious baby in her arms.
    Year 6,976 BC → Age 27.
Poseida was pregnant once more—this time with twin girls. She and Nerites were excited to give Anteros younger sisters. Alas, their happiness would not last.

    Year 6,975 BC → Age 28.
Poseida began to mourn the loss of her husband and unborn children after they were taken from her so suddenly.
    Year 6,975-6,872 BC → Age 28-128.
Poseida's grief had consumed her during this time period. She couldn't eat, she couldn't sleep, and she spent most of her walking hours simply existing. She just shut down completely. Her emotional state was so fragile, that she had contemplated and even once tried to take her own life by purposefully dehydrating herself.
It didn't work.Death was only fleeting and she was trapped in a cruel cycle of death and rebirth until Nereus came upon her and intervened. She did not realize how grateful she would truly be for that until much later.    Year 6,872 BC → Age 128.
Desperate to channel her sorrow into something constructive, Poseida created the lost continent of Atlantis and its people—her children—the Atlanteans.
   Year 6,872-5,372 BC  → Age 128-1,628.
Atlantis thrived. It was an island nation that dominated in scientific discoveries and technological marvels. Rich with beauty and culture, too, it was no wonder that its influence would reach far and wide as the longest-lasting empire in history.
   Year 5,372 BC  → Age 1,628.
Poseida was forced to give her one of her greatest creations—Atlantis—an underwater burial. On top of that, she also had to destroy the Telkhines, her once beloved mentors, after she caught wind of their betrayal.
more coming soon.

what defines the main verse:

- Po has become much more modernized but she's still delightfully witchy with a fondness for certain old-fashioned methods of communication.

olympian defeat

     youth.             plotting required

key differences from the main verse:
- Instead of triumphing over the Titans, the Olympian rebels were soundly defeated.
- While her brothers and some of their allies are on the run, Po has to deal with becoming a (reluctant) bride to one of the younger Titans.

"raised" by kronos

     youth.             plotting required

key differences from the main verse:
- Kronos "spares" Po and allows her to live solely because he considers her to be far too weak to even be a potential threat to him.
- Po grows up under the impression that she's an orphan who was abandoned at birth. In this verse, she sees Kronos as the closest thing to a father that she has, calling him her master. She is so desperate for love and approval, that it doesn't occur to her that she's being treated like a pawn because she views Kronos through rosy-tinted lenses.

"raised" by the telkhines

     past.             plotting required

key differences from the main verse:
- Rhea manages to save Po from being swallowed.
- Much like in the alternate take on Po's origin story, Rhea asks the Telkhines to secretly raise Po and keep her safe from harm.
- They agree to do so—albeit with the same agenda that they had in Po's main verse (use her as a means to get revenge on Kronos because he royally screwed them over)—and she grows up, learning all about magic. At the same time, though, she learns that she has to one day help her younger brother, Zeus, rescue the rest of their siblings—so, no pressure or anything, right?

one big happy family

     youth.             plotting required

key differences from the main verse:
- Po and her siblings were never swallowed.
- Po grew up living the life of a princess and has a happy childhood.

avatar: the last airbender

     crossover.             plotting required

key differences from the main verse:
- Instead of being a goddess, Po is an ancient spirit—a spirit of the ocean, in fact.
- She's also a source of magic and is known to be a playful trickster.

hogwarts

     crossover.             open to all

key differences from the main verse:
- Po is a mortal-born witch.
- Po was raised as an only child by her uncles, the telkhines, on a reclusive island. There they taught her magic during her formative years, molding her mind to be sharp and questioning. As a result of their extensive tutelage, Po was already well-prepared for her first few years of Hogwarts.

superhero

     fandomless.             plotting required

key differences from the main verse:
- Po is still super powerful but she doesn't have her full range of powers (obviously). The powers that she does have are the following: shapeshifting, magic (including elemental magic), supernatural condition (agility, flexibility, and reflexes especially), siren song, and sonic scream.
- She also has immortality and eternal youth (as does the rest of the Bestowed). In this verse, it's more of a curse than a blessing.
- Her immortality is not true immortality. She is not as durable as she usually is for starters and, on top of that, she could even die in this verse.

science fiction

     fandomless.              plotting required

key differences from the main verse:
- Po is an alien from the planet, Neptune.
- She is hailed as one of her planet's top scientists and she is particularly fascinated by human lifeforms.
